In 2021, New Jersey reported 87,745 treatment admissions for drug abuse and 86,626 discharges. Although these numbers are high, New Jersey may be starting to take steps in the right direction. From 2020 to 2021, the number of overdose deaths in New Jersey decreased by 2.7 percent. New Jersey was one of only four states to see drug overdose deaths decrease from 2020 to 2021.
Edison, which falls under Middlesex County, has been struggling with numerous overdoses in the past year. Data shows that the biggest substance abuse threats to the county are alcohol, heroin, and opiates.
Police seized $559K in cocaine in Somerset, Union, and Middlesex County
Police charged 31 people in a central drug ring across Somerset, Middlesex, and Union Counties. They seized an estimated value of $559,000 worth of cocaine, and amongst the 31 people was a man from Edison.
Police named this investigation Operation Triple Tragedy, and it took them five months to take down this major cocaine-dealing ring and arrest everyone involved. Authorities are still looking for four people. During the investigation, the police conducted eight search warrants. Now, they are asking for help from locals, and if they have any information related to this, the police should be contacted immediately.
