In April 2023, an investigation by the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Dyer County Sheriff's Office led to the arrest of two men for selling drugs in a Dyersburg hotel. The West Tennessee Drug Task Force searched two rooms in the hotel and caught the man trying to flush methamphetamine down the toilet. In the other room, they found a man with a sack of methamphetamine. Authorities also found baggies and scales. Both men faced felony drug charges.
In November 2022, the Dyersburg Police Department seized multiple weapons and drugs during an operation to conduct parole and probation searches and serve warrants on wanted suspects. The operation included the Dyersburg Police Street Crimes Unit, the Patrol Division, and the Tennessee Department of Correction Apprehension Unit. While searching Green Tree Apartments, officers seized 351 Oxycodone pills, 31 grams of marijuana, six handguns, one handgun found in a baby's crib, and 120 rounds of ammunition.
Experts Say...
In February 2022, Johnie Carter, Director of the West Tennessee Drug Task Force, spoke about the overdoses occurring in Dyer County. "We have agents working around the clock to get to the source," he said. "In the meantime, everyone should be aware of what they are consuming. There are no quality controls that go into pressing these fake fentanyl pills. One pill could contain little to no fentanyl, while another could contain multiple milligrams." Carter warned Dyersburg and county residents to never take a pill that wasn't legally prescribed to them by their doctor and filled by a pharmacist.
