In December 2022, seventeen people were charged in a major drug trafficking case after the dismantling of a major drug trafficking organization. The organization sold heroin and methamphetamine mixed with fentanyl throughout Duluth, Cloquet, Fond Du Lac Reservation, and Superior and in other Minnesota and Wisconsin areas. Duluth Police said that over 50 search warrants were executed during the investigation. Officers recovered 8,509 grams of a methamphetamine-fentanyl mix valued at $850,000, 1,759 grams of methamphetamine worth approximately $131,000 and 204 grams of fentanyl worth more than $37,000. Police also confiscated nine firearms, 10 vehicles, a homemade explosive, and more than $74,000 cash. Seventeen people were arrested in Duluth and Superior.
