Notable News Events Relating to Substance Abuse in Dublin, GA

In July 2023, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) announced the arrest of three Dublin area residents for their role in a large local drug trafficking operation. According to reports, GBI agents arrested two men and one woman from Dublin in part of an ongoing joint investigation by the GBI and the Dublin Police Department targeting local street-level drug distribution.

On July 5, 2023, GBI agents executed a search warrant at a home on Geneva Street in Dublin and seized roughly 25 pounds of marijuana alongside various amounts of cocaine, pills suspected of being a Schedule II Controlled Substance, and multiple firearms and ammunition. The three suspects were booked at the Laurens County Jail on a collection of charges including trafficking marijuana and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance.

Local Initiatives to Help Curb Substance Abuse in Dublin, GA

The Recovery In Supportive Environment Utilizing Peers (RISE-UP) center was developed in an effort to supply Dublin and surrounding Laurens County residents with better access to substance abuse treatment resources. First opening its doors in 2018 in Dublin, GA, the RISE UP Center is funded by the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities in part of their ongoing statewide efforts to expand resident access to drug treatment resources.

Through the RISE UP Center, Dublin residents struggling with substance abuse as well as families who are currently being impacted by substance abuse can access a variety of cost-free resources and programs. Such assistance includes employment assistance, recovery meetings, and awareness courses for families including Narcan education.
