A Downey man was arrested and is facing federal charges because of selling fake prescription pills. These pills contained fentanyl and caused the death of only a 17-years-old female who overdosed.

The man was charged with the distribution of fentanyl, which resulted in death, and the distribution of fentanyl to persons younger than 21 years old. He pleaded not guilty. Currently, he is awaiting a trial. The minimum sentence for distributing fentanyl that resulted in death is 20 years in federal prison, a maximum statutory penalty of life.
