Specimens we can test for DNA

Other specimen samples, such as hair follicles, fingernails, and garments that might contain someone's DNA, can also be tested. An Alternative Specimen DNA Test is done by ordering one of our testing kits online and shipping the specimens back to us.
Legal DNA Tests vs. "Peace of Mind" At-Home Tests
A Legal Paternity Test is a court admissible lab testing service performed at an AABB accredited laboratory. Accurate results for DNA paternity testing with 99.99% confidence or greater take about a week.
When deciding which type of DNA test is right for you, consider first what you might do with the results. A legal paternity DNA test will hold up in court for such matters as child support or to change the name on a birth certificate. This test must be performed using strict chain of custody procedures. Our Detroit DNA testing technicians are trained to follow these guidelines so that the results will be legally admissible.

Detroit, Michigan - DNA Testing
Establishing paternity in Detroit, Michigan
There are two main ways that unmarried parents can establish paternity. They either voluntarily sign an Affidavit of Parentage, or they can ask the local court to help them establish paternity, which usually requires DNA testing. Both of these methods permanently establish paternity for a child.
When parents sign the Affidavit of Parentage, they agree that the mother has custody of the child unless the local family court or parents agree on something else. Either of the parents can file a claim for custody or parenting time. Both parents must support the child and will be notified in the case that one of the parents wants the child to be adopted.
Benefits of establishing paternity in Detroit, Michigan
Multiple benefits come with establishing paternity. The child will know both of their parents and can have a relationship with both of them. Besides that, the child can get financial support, health and life insurance, social security, inheritance, or veterans' benefits. Plus, knowing both parents helps the child to understand their medical history.
