Danbury, Connecticut: Drug abuse trends

Danbury, Connecticut, is facing a significant problem—fentanyl. The presence of this very potent opioid is increasing rapidly in Danbury and throughout the country. According to the Connecticut Department of Public Health, most accidental drug overdoses in the state are caused by opioids.

In 2020, the Department of Public Health reported that Connecticut's age-adjusted rate for drug-induced mortality was 39.1 per every 100,000 residents, compared to 28.3, which was the national rate. Fairfield County reported 38 deaths from 2015 to 2021 caused by opioids. Twenty-eight of these fatalities happened at home, and 60.5 percent involved fentanyl. Quite often, people use fentanyl without realizing it because it has been laced into other drugs. At about 50 to 100 times the strength of morphine, accidental overdoses are soaring across the state.

Danbury police charged man with multiple counts of drug possession

A Danbury man was charged with multiple counts of drug possession after the police discovered drugs and narcotics at his residence and vehicle. The police found and seized fentanyl, crack cocaine, Xanax, and money in his apartment and car. The 42-year-old man was held on a $50,000 bond with multiple charges.
