Local News Relating to Substance Abuse in Daly City, CA
In April 2022, two Daly City area men were arrested and charged with distributing methamphetamine after San Mateo County investigators linked them to an online dark web drug distribution operation. According to reports, investigators discovered an online dark web account called "ADDERALL123" where the suspects would offer various amounts of prescription Adderall pills for sale.
During the investigation, agents bought 200 pills from the dark web account to conduct laboratory testing. Investigators went on to learn that the pills were counterfeit and, in fact, tested positive for traces of methamphetamine. Law enforcement tracked one of the packages from a Daly City post office account and identified a suspect via surveillance footage. Continued surveillance at additional local post offices also helped identify a secondary sender, ultimately leading to their arrest.
Local Initiatives to Help Curb Substance Abuse in Daly City, CA
In August 2021, San Mateo County officials filed a lawsuit against McKinsey & Company, Inc. for their alleged role in helping opioid manufacturers improve drug sales and suppressing negative news press regarding local lives that were lost to the ongoing opioid epidemic. McKinsey served as a marketing advisor to multiple opioid manufacturers, including Purdue Pharma.
This lawsuit is a follow-up to San Mateo County's 2018 and 2019 lawsuits against opioid manufacturers and distributors that are being held responsible for fueling the nationwide opioid epidemic. The combined three cases are working to recover county costs associated with the various needs and initiatives used to address the local effects of the opioid epidemic.
