In 2020, at least 1,008 individuals died from drug overdoses in Minnesota, a 27 percent increase compared to 2019.
Anoka County also experienced an increase between eighth and ninth graders in the percentage of students that, in the past twelve months, used prescription pain medication without a prescription or differently from what the doctor intended.
Coon Rapids man charged after police found 25 pounds of cocaine on him
In December 2022, 38-year-old man was charged in Anoka County Court after he was found possessing more than twenty-five pounds of cocaine with the intent to sell it. The West Metro Drug Task Force investigated a vehicle suspected of transporting a large quantity of cocaine from Mexico to Minnesota. The man was arrested in a Roseville Walmart parking lot where a canine found narcotics in his truck, and authorities seized five kilograms of cocaine. A search of the man's residence followed, which led to the discovery of seven and a half kilograms of cocaine and over $109,000 in cash.
