Community Efforts to Address Substance Abuse in Cherry Hill, NJ and Camden County
The Camden County Addiction Awareness Task Force is taking steps to battle drug addiction in Cherry Hill and Camden County. Narcan kits are being installed in 150 South Jersey schools, and Camden County is providing teachers and students with training on how to use the life-saving medication. Camden County also launched a pilot program to reduce the number of fentanyl-related deaths. The county has added fentanyl test strips to their kits as another method to prevent fatal overdoses for people with substance use disorder that aren't ready to begin treatment. Camden County Freeholder Director, Louis Cappelli Jr, said that providing fentanyl test strips does not encourage drug use, but it makes drug use safer for those who cannot yet find their way out. The county's kits provide information for residents ready to seek treatment. Cherry Hill and Camden County residents can also drop off their unused, unwanted, or expired medications at one of multiple locations throughout the county.
