To promote addiction awareness and education throughout Camden County, the Board of Commissioners developed the Opiate and Heroin Addiction Awareness Task Force. This task force is composed of local civic organizations, medical professionals, law enforcement, students, and other citizens to effectively address the ongoing needs of the nationwide opioid epidemic.

Laws and Regulations Relating to Substance Abuse in Camden, NJ

In early 2022, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed a new legislative package that expanded the ongoing opioid harm reduction efforts taking place across the state of New Jersey. The package supports the governor's comprehensive ongoing approach to ending the deadly effects of the opioid epidemic and eliminating barriers to local harm reduction services and supply access.

Three new bills were included in the legislative package, including S3009 which authorizes the expansion of harm reduction programs that distribute sterile syringes, and A798 which establishes drug overdose fatality review teams. Lastly, S3493 now permits the expungement of criminal possession or distribution charges involving hypodermic syringes or needles.
