Camarillo, California, situated in Ventura County, has been impacted by the concerning trend of drug abuse and fatal overdoses. In 2022 alone, 278 individuals tragically lost their lives due to drug overdoses in Ventura County. Fentanyl, methamphetamine, heroin, and alcohol were among the most commonly abused substances in the region. Despite a four percent decrease in fatal overdoses, the overall trend indicates a significant increase in substance-related deaths, nearly doubling between 2019 and 2021.
Experts believe that the prevalence and impact of fentanyl are still on the rise, with more individuals becoming addicted to this potent and inexpensive drug. Fentanyl often finds its way into other illicit substances as dealers use it to enhance their products. In 2022, fentanyl was found in 181 deaths, which was a ten percent increase from the previous year. Men accounted for 74 percent of the overdose cases in Ventura County, and individuals aged 31 to 60 comprised 68 percent of the fatal overdose victims. At least 67 percent of the fatal overdoses in 2022 involved the use of multiple drugs.
Seven people were arrested because of drug trafficking in Camarillo
In March 2022, Camarillo police arrested seven people on drug trafficking charges after a month-long investigation. A 24-year-old male was responsible for trafficking fake prescription pills and methamphetamine into Ventura County. The pills contained fentanyl. He and his six co-conspirators were arrested on March 16th.
