Local Initiatives to Help Curb Substance Abuse in Beaverton, OR

To help Beaverton and surrounding Washington County locals combat drug addiction, the Behavioral Health Division launched a new project to create the Center for Addictions Triage and Treatment (CATT). This comprehensive substance abuse treatment center plans to operate 24/7 so those struggling with substance abuse concerns can receive support to put them on the right track.

The facility is currently being built on the basis of five core focuses, including accessibility, services, client experience, facility, and safety. Each of these focuses will target various needs of the facility to provide quality assistance to locals, including the proper hiring and training of substance abuse professionals and integrating substance abuse treatment with mental health treatment.

Laws and Regulations Relating to Substance Abuse in Beaverton, OR

To protect those who request medical assistance in the event of a drug overdose, the state of Oregon passed the Good Samaritan Overdose Law. With many drug overdose situations, the drug user and/or fellow accomplices may fear legal repercussions, such as drug possession or probation violation charges, which causes them to fail to seek emergency medical assistance.

By not seeking proper medical help in the event of an overdose, a drug user is highly susceptible to dangerous side effects ultimately resulting in death. Fortunately, under the Good Samaritan Overdose Law, someone who calls for medical help during a drug overdose cannot be prosecuted for drug possession, drug paraphernalia possession, probation violation, or any outstanding drug use or possession warrants.
