As of November 2022, the Office of the Attorney General had significantly expanded its efforts to combat opioid overdoses by providing nearly 35,000 naloxone doses, up from 25,000 the previous year. In addition, the office received a donation of 65,000 medication disposal pouches, which were distributed to various organizations.
Notably, Attorney General Jeff Landry announced a landmark $26 billion settlement with the nation's three largest pharmaceutical distributors and another company. This agreement mandates substantial industry reforms and is expected to bring over $325 million to Louisiana and Baton Rouge.

Six people were arrested in Baton Rouge after a drug bust
In May 2024, a drug bust in Baton Rouge resulted in the arrest of six individuals. The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office (EBRSO) Narcotics Division investigated a polydrug trafficking organization suspected of distributing large quantities meth and cocaine, as well as significant amounts of fentanyl.
During the investigation, agents conducted seven controlled purchases of various narcotics, including cocaine, methamphetamine, and fentanyl, from the organization. On May 21, 2024, agents executed five search warrants across East Baton Rouge Parish.
The investigators seized 2 pounds of cocaine, 1.1 pounds of methamphetamine, 1 ounce of fentanyl (equivalent to 280 lethal doses), 3.4 pounds of marijuana, cocaine kilo press, blenders, digital scales, and packaging materials. They also seized $4,141 in cash.
