In September 2022, the Phoenix Police Department made the largest fentanyl bust in its history, seizing just under one million fentanyl pills in an Avondale home. The fentanyl bust was the result of a lead about the possession of narcotics for sale in an Avondale home, where officers then conducted a search warrant. They also searched the vehicle which belonged to one of the suspects. The search warrant led to the seizure of 950,000 fentanyl pills and a firearm. Two people were arrested.

In October 2022, an Avondale man was one of three people arrested for their role in a drug trafficking organization after authorities seized large quantities of illegal drugs from an Avondale home. Included in the seizure were 430,000 fentanyl pills and 25 pounds of methamphetamine. The drug bust occurred shortly after the agency's largest fentanyl bust in history.
