In January 2023, the Kane County Sheriff's Office Criminal Interdiction Team arrested a Chicago man on drug and gun charges. A 31-year-old man was stopped for speeding in Aurora Township. During the traffic stop, deputies reportedly detected the smell of cannabis, leading them to search his vehicle. The search allegedly uncovered three large bags of cannabis, two handguns, and more than $13,500 in cash. He faced charges of armed violence, delivery of cannabis, and possession of cannabis.
In July of 2022, a traffic stop in Aurora led to the seizure of large amounts of drugs and cash. Inside the vehicle, officers found 250 grams of marijuana, 231 Xanax pills, 108 Oxycodone, 25 molly pills, a digital scale, and $1,8645 cash. The man was pulled over after officers had surveilled him, knowing he had a felony warrant for his arrest. Two people were in the car during the traffic stop and both faced felony drug charges.
In August of 2021, eighteen people were charged in Aurora for multiple gun and drug-related felonies. Back in 2019, the Aurora Police Department got information about the Latin Kings street gang dealing narcotics and selling illegal firearms. During an investigation, Aurora Police officers recovered multiple firearms in Aurora, Montgomery, DeKalb, and Elgin and discovered numerous criminal activities among the Latin Kings. In August of 2021, thirteen people were arrested, two people were already behind bars for other charges, and three remained at large.

Police Chief Keith Cross spoke about the gun and drug bust in Aurora in 2021. "The Aurora Police Department and this city have no tolerance for people who bring illegal guns and drugs into our city," he said, "One of my top priorities is to reduce violent crime in our city, and this is a prime example of what our officers, investigators, and professional staff are doing every day to keep our community safe."
