In November 2022, an international drug trafficker was sentenced to 30 years in prison for trafficking drugs into Arlington Heights and other U.S. cities. He partnered with Mexican drug cartels to buy and transport thousands of kilograms of cocaine from Mexico into the Chicago area and other parts of the U.S. He had numerous warehouses and money laundering "businesses" set up in Chicago areas, including Arlington Heights. His businesses, which were set up to look like legitimate companies, sold products like laundry detergent, snack food, and furniture. Drugs and money were hidden in pallets that appeared to be the products his stores were selling and were transported from Mexico on semi-trucks by unaware drivers. One pallet could contain up to $1.5 million or 100 kilograms of cocaine. Between 2012 and 2017, he distributed multiple thousands of kilograms of cocaine and more than $50 million from narcotics sales.
