Narcan is a drug that can reverse overdose effects. In 2023, the Erie County Department of Health, with the cooperation of the Erie County Opiate Epidemic Task Force, announced free Narcan training. All the participants have the chance to learn and recognize the signs of opioid overdoses and learn how to help people in these situations using Narcan.
Police arrested three men in separate drug and gun busts in Amherst and Buffalo
In October 2024, three men were arrested following separate drug and gun busts in Erie County, where authorities seized over a dozen firearms and significant amounts of drugs. The unrelated arrests took place after searches of multiple residences in Buffalo and Amherst. In one of the searches, police found over a pound and a half of cocaine and a loaded handgun. The gun was left unsecured around three children, one of whom was autistic. The situation raised serious safety concerns, as Sheriff John Garcia emphasized the danger of the illegal weapon.
Another search in Amherst ended with authorities finding 11 guns, fentanyl, and methamphetamine, along with a minor who had access to the drugs. The last search of the home revealed over a pound and a half of fentanyl and half a pound of cocaine. Despite no connections between the three men, all share a history of repeat offenses.
