Tom Church is an experienced attorney dedicated to representing individuals rather than corporations or government agencies. He began his legal career as a partner at Pate, Johnson & Church and later founded The Church Law Firm. Today, he has successfully defended clients in criminal cases and personal injury litigation across Georgia and beyond.
A graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law, Tom earned honors while excelling in Moot Court and Mock Trial competitions. He also served as a research assistant for constitutional law scholars and was one of a select few students chosen for a seminar with U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
Recognized for his legal expertise, Tom was named a Top 40 Under 40 Criminal Defense Trial Lawyer in Georgia by the National Trial Lawyers in 2020—an honor reserved for the state's most accomplished young attorneys. He has also been recognized by Best Lawyers and has been named a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers every year since 2023.
His practice covers federal and state criminal defense, including drug trafficking, white-collar crimes, immigration offenses, and sex crimes. He has secured major legal victories, from having criminal racketeering charges dismissed to filing motions that have spared clients from federal prison sentences. Beyond criminal defense, Tom also handles civil asset forfeiture cases and hemp-related litigation.
Outside of the courtroom, Tom is involved in his community, showing interest in poverty relief and environmental conservation. He enjoys hiking, traveling to Peru to visit family, and playing guitar as a songwriter in the Atlanta music scene.
